W- Aileen Carol Wuornos

Aileen Carol Wuornos

The movie Monster
was based on the the true story of the 2nd female murderer executed in Florida since 1976

Wuornos was convicted in Florida and  sentenced to death for the murder of Richard Mallory. She has been called America's first female serial killer. Not that it mitigates or depreciates the seriousness of what she did, but Aileen's father, Leo Dale Pitman was a convicted child molester and sociopath. He was strangled in prison. Her brother raped her when she was only thirteen. She gave birth to a child at a home for unwed mothers. Her own mother abandoned her. She and her brother were made wards of the court, but she ran away and began a life supporting herself through prostitution.

Although she was only convicted for Mallory's murder, Wuornos confessed to murdering six men along the Florida coast. She claimed Mallory attempted to rape her. It should be noted that Richard Mallory was a convicted rapist.

Wuornos met a young lesbian, Tyra Moore, in a gay bar and they fell in love. Prosecutors argued that Wuornos killed, not in self defense, but rather to rob her johns so she could support her gay lover.

Wuornos and her attorney sold the rights to her story within two weeks of her arrest and thus the hit movie Monster was made and actress Charlize Theron won the Oscar for Best Actress in 2004.
