Villains

My Favorite Fictional Villains:

Some villains we just can't help rooting for. Do you ever find yourself pulling for the villain?

Favorite T.V Villains:

Not in any particular order.

Walter White (Breaking Bad)
Nancy Botwin (Weeds)
Francis Underwood (House of Cards)
Boyd Crowder (Justified)
Tony Soprano (The Sopranos)
J.R. Ewing (Dallas)
Dexter (Dexter)

You have to admit there's a little something satisfying about watching evil people who finally get their overdue karma handed to them Dexter style while strapped to a steel gurney. They wake to find photos of their victim's staring them in the face. They attempt to bolt, but this time they are the one who is trapped liked an animal. The tables have turned. The hunter has become the prey. A blood spatter analysts  moonlighting as a serial killer, but a serial killer with a code. This was one of those killer concepts all of the writing instructor gurus have been talking about.

Favorite Film Villains

(some will carry over into the literature category)

Hannibal Lecter - Silence of the Lambs
Tom Ripley - The Talented Mr. Ripley
Keyser Soze - The Usual Suspects
Michael Corleone - The Godfather
Sheriff Lou Ford - The Killer Inside Me
Catherine Tramell - Basic Instinct
Bo Bandit - Smokey and the Bandit
Entire Cast of Oceans Eleven

I'm sure there's more, but that's all I can think of now. Below are 3 honorable mention villains. Nope, didn't root for them, just mean, cruel, villains I thought worth mentioning on Villain Day.

Nurse Ratched - One Flew over the Cuckoos Nest
Annie Wilkes - Misery
Joan Crawford - Mommie Dearest

If you want to learn about some real life villains you should check out a blog that I've become addicted to during this challenge. Stephanie Faris's Theme: Unsolved Mysteries had some amazing, cool and really twisted topics for each letter of the alphabet. If you don't already follow Steph, you really should stop by and visit. You will want to start from the top with Letter A Amy Lynn Bradley a woman who disappeared on a cruise ship. I won't go into the details, you will have to read it for yourself. You won't be disappointed.

Debbie over at My Random Musings has been writing the best flash fiction I've ever read. It's dark and disturbing, so it brings to mind a creepy, frighting villain, but never fear, it's all fiction. That's how talented she is. You really must read her her stories. Need to learn how to write a twist ending, here's your chance.

Do you have any favorite blogs you want to share with readers?

  1. I love a good villain and your lists include some of the best. Things are a little lighter over at our blog but a villain or two will probably make an appearance soon! Good luck with the last few letters! Alison from http://inksisterswrite.blogspot.com/2016/04/atozchallenge-v-is-for-vera-b-williams.html?m=1
